QUILTING

Pile of Quilts

Grace Lutheran has an active and mission-minded group of quilters and sewers, both men and women.

Fabric is cut and pieced over the summer, then the group comes together for three days in January and two in February to assemble, finish and tie the quilts, as well as assemble other projects such as school bags and baby care kits.

There's plenty of food and drink and good fellowship, as workers banter and tease one another.

In 2025, Grace Quilters made 135 quilts! Fourteen went to the Eagle’s Healing Nest in Redwood Falls, 12 went to Parkview Nursing Home, 19 were given to Women’s Rural Advocacy Programs (WRAP), and 17 went to a Sioux Falls shelter.

Sixteen people came over those four days to help assemble, sew, and tie those quilts. Two men worked to cut fabric squares and make/embroider 30 “from Grace” tags for the quilts. Iylene Kletscher, quilting chairwoman, made 19 lap quilts out of donated fleece, and also organized everything for the big quilting days.

Many other people worked during the rest of the year to buy, source, and donate fabric and batting, and piece quilt tops.

Quilting Work Days are intensive, rewarding and fun. Are you interested in seeing how you could become involved? You don't need to know how to sew at all and you can come as many or as few hours as you wish!
